YouTube Photography Advice

I have been watching too many YouTube videos of photographers recently. Today I am going to sum up some of the advice that that one of my favourite togs spouted today. Bear in mind that this photographer has changed his camera setup around 5 times in the past year. Going from the 5dmkIV to the latest Medium Format Fuji and using a Nikon Z9 as his little runaround camera, all while releasing videos around his new purchases. Im talking tens of thousands of dollars of equipment to take the same photos as he has done for the previous decade. (including the same composures… lazy)

Nearly every single photographer on YouTube will preach that it is whats behind the camera that matters and not the equipment, but when every second video they release is about new gear it seems kind of contradictive.

One video a couple of weeks ago stated this… “photography isn't about the equipment we use, but rather the stories we tell through our photos”

Then this week, merely 10 days later they spouted this nugget of shite “Every time a new camera, lens, or accessory is released, we can't help but drool over it. We start to imagine all the amazing photos we could take with it, and convince ourselves that we absolutely need it to take our photography to the next level. We've all gone to great lengths to get our hands on the latest and greatest gear. Maybe we've waited in line for hours outside a camera store, or spent way too much money on a lens that we didn't really need. So treat yourself to that shiny new camera or lens, don't feel guilty about it.

Then he hits us with this back-pedalling load of shit….” Just remember that it's not the equipment that makes the photographer, but rather the photographer who makes the equipment shine.”

What a load of pish.
